Frank Havens

Frank Havens (born August 1, 1924 in Arlington County , † July 22, 2018 ) was an American canoeist who won Olympic gold over 10,000 meters in 1952.

At the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki , he won gold in the single canoe over 10,000 meters. He dedicated the victory to his father, Bill, who was considered a favorite for the 1924 Olympic Games but decided not to take part because he didn't want to miss Frank's birth.

As early as 1948, Frank Havens took part in the Olympic Games in London , and came second behind František Čapek . Other Olympics were in 1956 and 1960 . He is the only US Olympic competitor to date to win a solo canoe.
