Frank Johnson Goodnow (born January 18, 1859 in Brooklyn , New York , † November 15, 1939 ) was an American lawyer and political scientist . Goodnow was the first president of the American Political Science Association (APSA) in 1903/04 and, from 1914, the third president of Johns Hopkins University, succeeding Ira Remsen . In 1916, Goodnow was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences . Since 1920 he was a member of the American Philosophical Society .

Since 1996 he has received the APSA's Frank J. Goodnow Award for outstanding services to political science .
