Frank Kleinfeld (born September 19, 1942 in Königsberg ) is a German doctor and entomologist whose research and collection focus is on the Carabini tribe and the subfamilia Anthiinae ( Insecta , Coleoptera ).

Career

After graduating from high school, studying medicine at the Georg-August University of Göttingen and the Philipps University of Marburg and obtaining a doctorate from the University of Göttingen , he worked as a trauma surgeon from 1975 onwards . From 1983 until his retirement he was chief physician at Surgical Clinic II at the Fürth Clinic . In addition to endoscopic knee surgery, the focus of his work was on endoprosthetics of the hip and knee joint . In addition, he supervised a number of doctoral students, published a number of relevant specialist articles from his field of work and was involved in numerous medical advanced training events. In 1984 he founded the "Middle Franconian Traumatological Colloquium", which still takes place every year.

Even as a schoolboy he showed great interest in the world of beetles and began to build up a collection at the age of 14, later focusing on the tribe Carabini ( Carabus , Cychrus and Calosoma ) and the Cicindelidae (Insecta, Coleoptera). Several trips to Nepal and China not only enriched his collection, but also led to a number of new descriptions and the only monograph of the subgenus Apotomopterus to date. Together with Helmut Schütze , Gleichen, he worked on identifying historical sites from publications on many Carabus species from the 19th and early 20th centuries by studying travel reports and itineraries by early travelers. This research was reflected in three joint publications. In addition, Kleinfeld directed his interest to the subfamily Anthiinae , about which he published a monographic picture atlas .

Frank Kleinfeld lives in Fürth .
