Frank Renger

Frank Renger (* 1968 in Gelsenkirchen ) is a former German hooligan . He gained international fame through the attack on the French police officer Daniel Nivel during the 1998 World Cup , in which he was involved.

The policeman was seriously injured. To this day he suffers from brain damage and is blind in one eye. Renger was sentenced to five years' imprisonment for dangerous physical harm for the attack , of which he served 4 years, 1 month and 10 days prior to his release.

Renger is a fan of FC Schalke 04 . Since 2009, after the suspension imposed by the DFB , he has been a volunteer supervisor at the amateur club TuRa 1886 Essen . For several years he spoke openly about his past and was featured in television and radio reports as well as in newspapers and magazines. In 2017, he suddenly stopped public appearances and moved to another city to leave the past behind.

His nickname as a hooligan, which he claims to use with pride to this day, is Samurai .
