Yellow cattle breed

Yellow cattle , also called Yellow Franconian cattle or simply Franconian cattle , is a German breed of domestic cattle .

history

The yellow cattle come from the red old Franconian cattle, into which various other breeds have been crossed over the centuries. In 1872 Simmentaler started to be imported from Switzerland and so the breed was converted to a monochrome yellow cattle. In 1875 the first regular breed club was founded in Uffenheim and finally in 1897 the first breed club for Middle and Upper Franconia. In 1899 a breeding association was established for Lower Franconia. In the 20th century, individual animals of the red Danish dairy cattle and red Flemish cattle breeds were crossed. The yellow cattle themselves were partly in the cattle breeds Carinthian Blondvieh , Murbodnerand Glanvieh used. The yellow cattle were the typical cattle in the Bavarian Rhön and Spessart.

Breeding lines for yellow cattle were established in the USA from 1971 and in Canada from 1972. To do this, they initially used imports from Germany. Today the herds belong to the common breeds, so in 2012 in Canada 3500 and in the USA 45,000 cattle of this breed were registered.

features

The yellow cattle are monochrome yellow to reddish. The muzzle and horns are light, the claws are dark. Originally it was a three-purpose breed (milk, meat, work performance as a draft animal), today it is more of a dual-use breed (milk, meat) or a pure meat breed. The animals are medium to large framed, have good muscles, strong bones and hard claws. Cows reach 700–800 kg at a height at the withers of 138–142 cm, bulls at 150–158 cm reach 1200–1300 kg. The annual milk production in 2004/2005 averaged 5657 kg with 4.19% fat and 3.53% protein. In the fattening period the animals have daily weight gain of about 1200-1300 g, the degree of slaughter is 58-62%.

In addition to excellent classification results, the yellow cattle deliver a high sensory meat quality. It is evenly marbled and is exceptionally tender. The meat has an excellent aroma thanks to the Rhön willows, which are rich in herbs.
