Franklin is a village in the former Griqualand East in the west of the KwaZulu-Natal province in South Africa . It is about 20 kilometers north of Kokstad on the Regional Road 
to Underberg . The village is a small railway junction where the route from Pietermaritzburg is divided into two branches to Kokstad and Matatiele .
