Franklin L. Ford
Franklin Lewis Ford (born December 26, 1920 in Waukegan , † August 31, 2003 in Lexington ) was an American modern historian.
Life
He received his AB from the University of Minnesota in 1942, followed by his MA (1948) and Ph.D. (1950) at Harvard University . Ford, a scholar of modern German history and 17th century French history, taught at Bennington College from 1949 to 1952 .
Ford was a popular undergraduate lecturer at Harvard and a valued student mentor. Ford was an assistant professor in the history department at Harvard in 1953. In 1956 he got a job as an associate professor and in 1959 became professor of history. In 1968 he was appointed McLean Professor of Ancient and Modern History, who retired in 1991.
Franklin Ford was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1961.
