Frans van den Dungen

Frans Henri Antoine van den Dungen (born June 4, 1898 in Saint-Gilles / Sint-Gillis , † May 22, 1965 in Watermael-Boitsfort / Watermaal-Bosvoorde ) was a Belgian mathematician who worked in the field of applied mathematics and mechanics .

Life

Van den Dungen was a professor at the Free University of Brussels . His fields of work were applied mechanics (e.g. investigation of vibration problems, physics of liquids), theoretical physics and geophysics. In 1946 he was awarded the most prestigious science prize in Belgium, the Francqui Prize . On February 20, 1956, he was accepted as a corresponding member of the Académie des sciences .
