František Šafránek (football player)

František Šafránek (born January 2, 1931 in Prague , † June 27, 1987 ) was a Czechoslovak football player . He was considered a tough, fast right-back.

Career

František Šafránek started playing football at SS Vršovice , in 1949 he moved to Sparta Prague . In 1952 the midfielder was committed by ATK Prague (from 1956 Dukla), for whom he played until 1965. With Dukla, Šafránek was Czechoslovakian champion seven times and cup winner twice . He played 238 first division games in which he scored 28 goals.

From 1966 to 1970 he played for BS Vlašim . Between 1970 and 1974 he was a coach at Dukla Slaný . He then returned to the field at RH Strašnice and finally ended his career in 1976. From 1980 to 1983 he worked as a youth coach at his former club Dukla Prague.

Between 1951 and 1961 he played 22 times for the Czechoslovak national team and scored one goal. He took part in the 1954 World Cup and the 1960 European Championship .
