František Peterka

František Peterka (born March 17, 1922 in Prague , † November 24, 2016 in Liberec ) was a Czech actor .

Life

Peterka worked as a weightlifter in his youth . After graduating from business school, he studied acting at the Prague Conservatory . He then worked as an insurance officer and continued to work as a weight lifter. By chance he got an engagement at the Moravian-Slovak Theater in Uherské Hradiště and later at the Šalda Theater in Liberec .

In 1950 he took on his first supporting role in film. His breakthrough came in 1960 with the film A man like a mountain . He was best known to the German audience for his role as Fantomas in the television series Die Märchenbraut . After a ten-year hiatus, he took on his last film role in 1994.

In 2001, at the age of 79, he suffered a serious traffic accident, from which he gradually recovered after ten operations and three years of hospitalization through intensive sports training. Posthumously, Peterka was made an honorary citizen of Liberec in 2017 .
