František Roubík

František Roubík (born July 31, 1890 in Jindřichův Hradec , † May 5, 1974 in Prague ) was a Czechoslovak historian and archivist.

Life

František Roubík studied history from 1911 to 1919 at the Philosophical Faculty of Charles University . From 1919 to 1921 he completed the first training course at the newly established Státní archivní škola (State School for Archivists) in Prague. While still a student he began to work in the archive of his hometown Jindřichův Hradec. From 1920 to 1939 František Roubík was employed at the archive of the Czech Ministry of the Interior in the capital Prague. He also taught at the Státní archivní škola from 1930 to 1943 . In 1934 he completed his habilitation at the Charles University, where he taught from 1949 to 1967. From 1953 until his retirement in 1960 he headed the Department of Historical Geography.

Works

His subject area particularly includes regional studies, cartography, administrative history, social history and modern diplomacy of Bohemia.

From an Austrian point of view, František Roubík's writings on the South Bohemian transport routes connecting to the Upper Austrian transport network are of particular interest:
