František Vystrčil (born September 11, 1923 in Olomouc , Czechoslovakia , † January 8, 2006 in Prague , Czech Republic ) was a Czechoslovakian or Czech animation filmmaker.

Life

Vystrčil attended the School of Applied Arts in Brno . He then worked as a commercial artist in Brno from 1939 to 1942 and then came to the Brentenovo Film Studio, where he worked as an animator . After the Second World War , he worked in Brno again for a short time, but finally went to the renowned film studio Bratri v triku in Prague. Here he began working as an animator for short films by Zdeněk Miler in the early 1950s . He animated an episode of the popular series about the Little Mole (1957) and Eduard Hofman's Jean Effel film The Creation of the World (1958).

In 1959 Vystrčil emerged for the first time as a director and screenwriter: his cartoon O místo na slunci (Eng. The place in the sun ) showed in a reduced representation the fight of two males for the only dry place in a sea, but theoretically large is enough for two. The film is considered a classic of animated films and its style had a great influence on animated filmmakers of the early 1960s. Vystrčil received an Oscar nomination for O místo na slunci in the Best Animated Short Film category . He died in Prague in 2006.
