Franz-Josef Britz (born May 20, 1948 in Essen ) is a German politician ( CDU ). From 1990 to 2005 he was a member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia .

Educational career

After graduating from high school, Franz-Josef Britz studied economics from 1966 to 1971 at the Ruhr University in Bochum . Here he graduated with a degree in economics. From 1971 to 1973 he was a trainee teacher in the preparatory service at a vocational school. He passed the second state examination in 1973. From 1973 to May 1990 he worked at the vocational schools in the city of Gladbeck, first as a teacher, then a senior teacher. He was also a member of examination boards at the Gelsenkirchen-Buer Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Franz-Josef Britz is married and has a son and a daughter.

Political career

Britz has been a member of the CDU since 1971. From 1979 on he was a member of the parliamentary group of the CDU in the city council of Essen, its deputy chairman and from 1999 to 2009 chairman of the parliamentary group.

Since October 2009 he has been the second mayor of the city of Essen.

In 1990 he entered the 11th state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia via the state list . He remained a member of the 12th and 13th state parliaments until 2005. Britz moved into the 14th state parliament on November 4, 2009 and left after the next election in 2010. From 1993 to 2005 he sat on the parliamentary committee of the CDU parliamentary group and was spokesman for committees of the CDU parliamentary group.

Franz-Josef Britz was chairman of the CDU district association in Essen from 2003 to 2015 and a member of the state board of the North Rhine-Westphalian CDU from 2005 to 2014 .
