The 1969 MLB Draft was the fifth draft hosted by Major League Baseball . In the first place, Jeff Burroughs was selected by the Washington Senators .

The Kansas City Royals set a record with the selection of 90 players in the regular June draft, including Al Cowens in the 84th round. Other well-known players selected were Bill Madlock of the Washington Senators , Buddy Bell of the Cleveland Indians , Bob Boone of the Philadelphia Phillies and Ken Griffey sr. from the Cincinnati Reds . The first player drafted that year to stand in a game of Major League Baseball was pitcher Don Gullett , who made his debut for the Cincinnati Reds on April 10, 1970.
