The 1973 MLB Draft was the ninth draft to be hosted by Major League Baseball . First and foremost, David Clyde was selected by the Texas Rangers .

Four of the most successful players in the 1970s and 1980s were infielder Robin Yount ( Milwaukee Brewers , 1st round), outfielder Dave Winfield ( San Diego Padres , 1st round), outfielder Fred Lynn ( Boston Red Sox , 2nd round ) and infielder Eddie Murray ( Baltimore Orioles , 3rd round) elected.

In contrast, David Clyde , who was drafted in first place, had to give up early due to an injury after a successful start to his career.
