The 1967 MLB Draft was the third draft hosted by North American Major League Baseball . In the first place, Ron Blomberg was selected by the New York Yankees .
background
In the June draft, some players were selected who would later start a successful MLB career. These included Bobby Grich and Don Baylor of the Baltimore Orioles , Vida Blue of the Kansas City Athletics , Dusty Baker of the Atlanta Braves , Ken Singleton and Jon Matlack of the New York Mets, and Ted Simmons and Jerry Reuss of the St. Louis Cardinals . Probably the most successful player selected in the January Draft is Carlton Fisk of the Boston Red Sox , who was active in the MLB for 24 years and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2000 .
Just as last year the New York Yankees chose a later successful football player with Ken Stabler , so did their city rival New York Mets this year with Dan Pastorini , whom they elected in the 32nd round. Pastorini won the Super Bowl with the Oakland Raiders in 1981 .
