The Burgsinn Tunnel (also called Burgsinner Kuppe in the planning and construction phase ) is a 729 m long railway tunnel on the high-speed line from Hanover to Würzburg . It is located on the district of the Lower Franconian market Burgsinn and therefore bears his name.

course

The tunnel crosses, between construction kilometers 265.125 and 265.840, the western slope of the Burgsinner Kuppe.

The route lies at the north portal in a diverting transition curve from a right curve in front of the portal with a radius of 5,600 m. The rest of the tunnel runs in a straight line. In a southerly direction, the gradient rises initially at 3.0 per mille and then drops towards the south portal at 1.7 per mille.

The maximum cover is 45 m.

To the north, there is a section of open line, to the south is the Burgsinn depot .

history

planning

According to the planning status from the end of 1977, a length of 812 m had been planned for the structure. The course of the route and the gradient already corresponded to the later realized design. In autumn 1981 the planned length was 720 m.

In the planning and construction phase, the tube was at construction kilometer 265.

history

The construction of the tunnel was awarded to the Kunz / Züblin / Kronibus consortium on March 13, 1981 . Construction work began in May 1981.

The structure was one of the first to be built in the southern section of the route. Originally a length of 760 m was planned. Later a length of 715 m was planned. Also in 1983 a length of 715 m was given.

The tunnel was driven in multi-shift operation (five-day weeks) using shotcrete construction from south to north, with a short counter-drive from the north. For a usable cross-section of around 81 m², an excavated cross-section of around 115 m² was created. A total of around 150,000 m³ of rock mass ( red sandstone in various formations) was excavated, which was installed in the area of the Neuserts landfill in the area of the Burgsinn district. (Another source speaks of an excavated cross-section of approx. 106 m³ and an excavated volume of 80,000 m³)

Driving the tunnel parallel to the slope, which was driven in a slope breaking zone, was considered particularly difficult.

The tunnel was hit on May 25, 1982. The structure was completed at the end of 1983 with the exception of remaining work.

The planned construction costs in 1982 were around 21 million Deutschmarks (around 11 million euros ).
