The 1974 MLB Draft was the tenth draft hosted by Major League Baseball . In the first place, Bill Almon was selected by the San Diego Padres .

In contrast to the other drafts, twelve of the 13 first and a total of 16 players selected in the first round in the 1974 MLB Draft then made it to Major League Baseball . Some of the most famous and successful players drafted include Lonnie Smith ( Philadelphia Phillies ), Dale Murphy ( Atlanta Braves ), Garry Templeton ( St. Louis Cardinals ), Lance Parrish ( Detroit Tigers ), Willie Wilson ( Kansas City Royals ) and Rick Sutcliffe ( Los Angeles Dodgers ).
