Lompoc is a city in Santa Barbara County in the US state of California . The city is located a few kilometers from the Pacific Ocean and is the mouth of the Santa Ynez River .
Demographics
According to the 2010 census , the population was 42,434, of which more than half are Caucasian whites, while Latinos make up more than a third of the population . The proportion of Afro-Americans or Asians is much lower. The city only experienced a noteworthy influx of residents from the end of the 1950s, before only a few thousand people lived in Lompoc. One of the main reasons at the time was that ordinary people turned their backs on the not far away Santa Barbara because of rising rental costs. There is a slight surplus of men in the village, with 114.9 men for every 100 women. The median age of the population is 33.9 years. The 2010 census also showed that there are 13,355 households in Lompoc.
economy
The Californian wine production is economically of substantial importance for the city where numerous companies in this branch have settled. Due to the large number of wine cellars, Lompoc has a certain attraction for tourists and wine connoisseurs. Other agricultural crops and tourism are also of key economic importance.
