Ustyluh ( Ukrainian Устилуг ; Russian Ustilug , Polish Uściług ) is a city in northwestern Ukraine . Located on the Bug River , it is on the western border of Volyn Oblast .
geography
The city lies on the edge of the northwestern foothills of the Volhyn Mountains , on the right bank of the Bug River.
The distances to larger cities are: 8 km to Volodymyr-Wolynskyj , 15 km to Novovolynsk , 60 km to Kovel . The bow here is the western border between Ukraine and Poland ( Zosin ).
On November 3, 2015, the city became the center of the newly founded municipality Ustyluh (Устилузька міська громада / Ustyluska miska hromada ). history
The city was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1150, was granted Magdeburg town charter in 1653 and belonged to the aristocratic republic of Poland until the 3rd division of Poland (in the Voivodeship , was also called Rosypol at that time ), then came to the Russian Empire , where it was in the Volyn Governorate and was called Ustilug . In 1918/1921 it fell to Poland and came to the Wolhynia Voivodeship in the Powiat Włodzimierz , Gmina Uściług . As a result of the Hitler-Stalin Pact , the Soviet Union occupied the area, after the German invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941, the place was under German rule until 1944, was then annexed by the Soviet Union again after the Second World War and has belonged to today's Ukraine since 1991.
Attractions
The composer Igor Fjodorowitsch Stravinsky had an estate in Ustyluh and often stayed here between 1890 and 1914. Today there is a museum there.
