history
The settlement was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1097, initially belonged to the Polish aristocratic republic (in the Ruthenia / Chełmer Land voivodeship , Magdeburg city charter in 1759) and, after the 3rd division of Poland, came to the Russian Empire in 1795 , where it was located in the Wolhynia governorate . In 1918/1921 it fell to Poland and came to the Volyn Voivodeship in the powiat Kowel. As a result of the Hitler-Stalin Pact , the Soviet Union occupied the area, after the German invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941, the place was under German rule until 1944, was then annexed by the Soviet Union again after the Second World War and has belonged to today's Ukraine since 1991. Turiysk has had urban-type settlement status since 1940 .
Turijsk has had a train station on the Jarosław – Kowel railway line since 1908, and Turzysk Castle , built near the river in the 15th century, was destroyed during World War II.
