Franz-Josef Knieps (born October 13, 1942 in Cologne ) is a German entrepreneur and economic politician. From 2005 to 2010 he was a member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia .

Life

Knieps graduated from secondary school in 1957 and then completed an apprenticeship as a baker. In 1964 he became a master baker and three years later he also graduated as a master confectioner. From 1962 to 1968 he worked in his parents' business before he took it over completely in 1968 and continued to run it until 2000. From 2000 to 2010 he was a managing partner of various bakery chains.

He is married and has two children.

Social Commitment

Knieps joined the CDU in 1968 and has been a member of the board of the Cologne CDU local association downtown south since 1969. From 1985 to 1997 he was deputy chairman of the CDU SME Association. From 1989 to 2004 he was a member of the Cologne City Council, where he was chairman of the culture committee and the award committee as well as a member of the economic committee. From 1995 to 2010 he was President of the Chamber of Crafts in Cologne, and from 1998 to 2010 he was also President of the West German Chamber of Crafts . From 2005 to 2010 he was a member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia, where he was a full member of the budget control committee. He was also chairman of the committee for economics, medium-sized enterprises and energy.

He is the first chairman of the Offenbach Society in Cologne, which was founded in 2015 and has set itself the goal of an appropriate souvenir of the works of Jacques Offenbach in Cologne.
