Franz Bünzli

Franz Bünzli (born April 16, 1811 in Solothurn ; † April 23, 1872 there ) was a Swiss politician . From 1857 until his death he was a member of the National Council and was also the city ​​president of Solothurn.

biography

The son of a trader completed a law degree at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität in Heidelberg after high school . From 1836 Bünzli worked as a lawyer and notary in Solothurn . Politically, he belonged to the Catholic-Conservative camp, but was at times also close to the moderate liberals. After serving as city president of Solothurn for a few months in 1840, he took over this office again in 1844 and held it for over a quarter of a century until 1871.

In 1848 Bünzli was elected to the Solothurn Cantonal Council, which he chaired four times. From 1850 to 1855 he presided over the newly founded poor association of the city of Solothurn, from 1856 he was chief judge . He was also a member of the board of directors of the Swiss Central Railway . Bünzli ran successfully in the National Council elections in 1857 , and was re-elected four times in a row. He remained a cantonal councilor, chief judge and national councilor until his death.
