Franz Blumenberg

Franz Michael Blumenberg (born February 7, 1869 in Remagen , † June 1, 1940 in Cologne ) was a German music director and composer .

Life

Blumenberg was born in Remagen and settled permanently in Cologne, where he worked as a composer and music director until his death. He wrote several songs (for example, Rhineland's Greetings to the Kaiser , also sold as a song postcard , or several songs based on poems and texts by Heinrich Heine ), marches (such as the Sieges March and Funkenmarsch ) and choirs that are rarely played today. He became known especially in student circles for the publication of the Kleine Kommersliederbuch. Selected Kommerslieder arranged for piano , published in Cologne around 1920.

In 1905 Franz Blumenberg was described as one of the most fertile and popular composers of our time .

In 1930 Franz Blumenberg became an honorary member of the Heimatverein Alt Köln eV, founded in 1902 and still in existence today. V., Association for the Maintenance of Cologne History, Language and Character.

Blumenberg married Helene Elisabeth Philippi in the London borough of Holborn in 1902 . He died of coronary sclerosis in his Cologne apartment at the age of 71 .
