Franz Gillmann (born September 22, 1865 in Landstuhl , † October 23, 1941 ibid) was a Catholic priest of the Diocese of Speyer and professor of theology at the University of Würzburg .

Live and act

He was born the son of a carter, studied in Munich from 1883 to 1887 , was ordained a priest in Speyer in 1888 and then officiated briefly as chaplain in Landau . Then he worked as a lecturer at the Klerikalseminar Speyer. From 1895 to 1898 Gillmann stayed again at the University of Munich , where he received his doctorate in theology in 1898 with the dissertation “The Resignation of Beneficiaries, Historically and Dogmatically Depicted” . Then he returned to his home diocese and was first parish administrator, then pastor in Brücken , from where he also co-administered the parish Remigiusberg zu Haschbach . He stayed there until 1901.

In 1903, Franz Gillmann completed his habilitation at Munich University and in 1904 was appointed professor of canon law in Würzburg. Here he taught and published until his retirement, after which he continued to live there as an emeritus. He was incardinated in the diocese of Speyer until the end of his life and carried the title of papal house prelate .

Franz Gillmann died in Landstuhl Hospital in 1941 and was buried in his home community. He published various theological publications.
