The former Tonndorf groundwater works was built shortly after 1900. As early as 1891, Wandsbek had a waterworks that supplied the then still independent town with water from the Großensee . The Tonndorf groundwater works was intended as a supplement to meet the increasing demand.

Preserved buildings

The ensemble consists of a central building and a flat extension, both built in brick.

The central building with a circular floor plan is completed by a slate-covered conical roof with a lantern . Evenly spaced arched windows ensure that the interior is illuminated. Originally the pumps and the processing plant were located here.

The extension just extends to the eaves of the central building. Its flat gable roof is also slated.

Conversion and monument protection

The waterworks has now been shut down. In 1980 it was converted into a residential building. On December 9, 1980, the building was added to the list of designated monuments. It bears the number 24473.
