Franz Josef Schnitzer

Franz Josef Schnitzer (born July 14, 1928 in Leoben ; † October 20, 2006 ) was an Austrian mathematician .

Schnitzer studied mathematics and physics at the Philosophical Faculty of the Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz , where he received his doctorate in philosophy under Georg Kantz in 1957.

From 1957 to 1971 Schnitzer was Professor of Mathematics at Wayne State University in Detroit , Michigan (USA). In 1971 he was appointed to the (then) Montanistische Hochschule in Leoben , where he began his service as a full university professor for mathematics and mathematical statistics in 1972. Until his retirement in 1996, he was also the director of the institute at what is now the Montan University of Leoben .
