Franz Kathreiner

Franz Kathreiner (* 1794 ; † 1866 ) was a German entrepreneur .

In 1829 Franz Kathreiner founded a company in Munich that specialized in the production of fuel oil and had been operating as a specialty and dyed goods store since 1842 . In 1870 the businessman Emil Wilhelm (1844–1919) took over the business under the new name of Franz Kathreiner's successor . Together with his partner Adolph Brougier (1844–1934), who joined in 1876, he concentrated the business on importing and trading in coffee, tea, spices, tropical fruits, sugar, cooking oil, spirits and tobacco.

The name Kathreiner became a synonym for malt coffee .
