Franz Krawutschke

Franz Krawutschke (* 1862 in Berlin , † 1940 in Düren ) developed the hiking trail network of the Eifel in almost 50 years of work. He was a member of the local group Düren of the Eifelverein .

By profession, Krawutschke was an authorized signatory at the Düren anchor carpet factory. For a long time at the Eifelverein he was secretary, treasurer, managing director and route supervisor in one person. In 1877, Krawutschke began to explore the Eifel from Düren and to mark hiking trails . The local poet Josef Schregel dedicated a poem to him for his 50th anniversary .

The lookout tower Krawutschketurm , which was inaugurated on the Burgberg near Bergstein in 1934, and the Krawutschke-Weg, among other things , were named after him .

In 1939, Krawutschke was named the first “honorary hiking warden” by the Eifelverein.
