Franz Ludwig von Waldburg-Wolfegg-Waldsee

Franz Ludwig Prince of Waldburg zu Wolfegg and Waldsee (born August 25, 1892 in Waldsee ; † May 1, 1989 in Florence , Italy ) was a German nobleman. As head of the Waldburg-Wolfegg-Waldsee house , he called himself Prince von Waldburg zu Wolfegg and Waldsee from 1950 .

Family and life

Franz Ludwig was the son of Prince Maximilian von Waldburg-Wolfegg-Waldsee (1863–1950) and of Sidonie, née Princess von Lobkowitz (1869–1941). His deeply religious mother shaped the upbringing of her children in the strict Catholic sense. Franz Ludwig spent most of his school days at the Jesuit college Stella Matutina in Feldkirch, Austria . After the death of his father, Franz Ludwig was head of the Waldburg zu Wolfegg and Waldsee family from 1950 until his death. He died on May 1, 1989 at the age of 96.

Marriage and offspring

Prince Franz Ludwig married Adelheid Henriette Wilhelmine Sophia Maria, born Countess von Schönburg-Glauchau , on May 6, 1920 in Wechselburg (born July 28, 1900 in Wechselburg; † January 7, 1987 in Bad Waldsee), daughter of Count Joachim von Schönburg-Glauchau (1873–1943) and Countess Oktavia geb. Chotek von Chotkowa and Wognin (1873–1946).

Franz Ludwig and Adelheid had six children:

  • Maximilian Willibald (born June 22, 1924 in Waldsee; † September 5, 1998 in Wolfegg), head of the house from 1989 ("Prince" of Waldburg zu Wolfegg and Waldsee)
  • Maria Oktavia (born August 1, 1926 in Wechselburg)
  • Otto (born May 30, 1928 in Waldsee; † December 26, 2012 in Wolfegg)
  • Maria Sidonia (born October 20, 1929 in Waldsee)
  • Gebhard (* December 8, 1930 in Waldsee; † November 14, 2011 in Munich)
  • Ferdinand (born December 17, 1933 in Waldsee; † June 12, 2001 in Kitzbühel )

  2. The real name Graf von Waldburg-Wolfegg-Waldsee was replaced in 1989 by the primogeneity name Fürst von Waldburg-Wolfegg-Waldsee used in public by the new head of the house . Wikipedia currently does not know whether this name became official as a result of a name change in accordance with the law on changing surnames and first names , or whether it was merely a form of courtesy.
