Franz Maria Kapfhammer

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Franz Maria Kapfhammer (born April 27, 1904 in Vienna , † December 17, 1989 in Graz ) was an Austrian teacher and author.

Life

Franz Maria Kapfhammer, born in Vienna as the son of a criminal inspector, lost his parents at an early age. When he was seventeen he became homeless and spent the night in train stations or in parks. Kapfhammer did not react to this life experience with depression or withdrawal, but with work in public education. He wanted to help the families to shape their coexistence.

In 1937, Governor Karl Maria Stepan brought the teacher who was then active in Aspang to Styria as a public educator, where he initially directed the St. Josef / Grottenhof home belonging to St. Martin. The National Socialist rulers relieved him of his activity; as the administrator of the music college in Eggenberg he was able to work relatively freely. After the war, he was the first federal public education consultant in Styria to help set up church educational work, founded teachers' homes and the community of Catholic educators as well as the library.

With his radio series, for example “Liebe ist ein Ring”, and the “Family Policy Conferences”, Kapfhammer set topics for family politics in the post-war period and birth trends.
