Franz Overkott

Franz Eduard Overkott (born February 17, 1895 in Sandebeck , Höxter district, † November 4, 1983 in Gevelsberg ) was a German elementary school teacher, city archivist and local history researcher. For his homeland research he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit.

Life

Overkott became an orphan at the age of twelve and grew up with his aunt in Gevelsberg. After graduating from primary school, he attended the preparatory institute and the teachers' college in Wollstein , Posen Province, from 1909 to 1915 . After working for six months in Pudewitz / Posen, he was drafted into the First World War as a soldier . After his release from English captivity, he was given a teaching position in Gevelsberg in 1919. In the Second World War he was drafted again and dismissed as a non-commissioned officer. He ended his teaching career in 1957 as vice principal . Overkott was married to Viktoria Auguste Wilhelmine Steinke (1901-1982) and had five children.
