Franz Richau

Franz Richau (born December 15, 1960 in Zurich ) is an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ), mayor of the market town of Rosegg and a police officer. From 1995 to 1999 he was a member of the Austrian Federal Council .

education and profession

Richau grew up in Dieschitz , attended elementary school and then graduated from high school. He then learned the profession of electrical installer and attended vocational school. After completing military service, he joined the Federal Gendarmerie in 1980, where he was employed by the State Gendarmerie Command for Carinthia. Today he is in command of the Villach Trattengasse police station.

Politics and functions

Richau became a member of the Young People's Party in 1975 and in 1985 became a member of the municipality of Rosegg. He was subsequently elected Second Vice Mayor of Rosegg in 1991 and was subsequently promoted to Mayor. In the municipal council elections in 2009, Richau came with his BGM list to 34.4% of the votes, which meant a loss of 15.9% of the valid votes. In contrast, he was able to prevail in the direct mayor election 2009 in the first ballot with 54.4%. Since 2009 he has headed the finance, economy, human resources, public safety, environmental protection, fire brigade, water, public waters and garbage departments. Within the party, Richau took over the function of district party chairman of the ÖVP Villach-Land in 1992. In 1995 he became a member of the general assembly of the Faaker See-area water supply association, in 1991 a member of the board of the Faaker See-area water supply association and in 1995 a member of the ethnic group advisory board for Slovenes at the Federal Chancellery. In addition, from 1987 to 1991 he was a member of the service committee at the Villach district gendarmerie command.

Richau represented the Austrian People's Party from October 25, 1995 to April 7, 1999 in the Austrian Federal Council. He was a member of the Committee on Science and Research, member of the EU Committee, member of the Legal Committee, member of the Incompatibility Committee, member of the Committee on Labor, Health and Social Affairs, member of the Committee on Internal Affairs, member of the Committee on Science and Transport, member of the Justice Committee and member of the National Defense Committee.
