Dieschitz ( Slovenian : Deščice ) is an Austrian town in the market town of Velden am Wörthersee in the Villach-Land district .

Geography and toponymy

Dieschitz is about 4 km south of Velden ( Vrba ) and consists of two districts: Unterdieschitz = Dieschitz in the narrower sense ( Deščice ) and Oberdieschitz ( Močile ). Some residents derive the name from the houses that were covered with clapboard at the time ( Deščice means "small boards"). However, Heinz-Dieter Pohl's derivation from a proper name is more credible , since shingled roofs were the standard in the country up to 100 years ago and would not have given rise to a name for a place. Močile means "damp place" (compare also Mötschlach near Irschen and Oberaich and Matschiedl near Sankt Stefan im Gailtal ), which makes sense, because Oberdieschitz lies at the foot of the Otuchowa hill, from which water seeps when it rains.

Both districts were created at the intersection of paths with the Dieschitzer Bach that flows into the Drau : Oberdieschitz on the road from St. Egyden to Latschach and Velden, Unterdieschitz on the path from St. Egyden to Pulpitsch.

Through the law on the reorganization of the municipal structure in Carinthia , the municipality of Augsdorf ( Loga vas ) and thus Dieschitz in 1972 was connected to the market municipality of Velden am Wörthersee .

population

According to the 2001 census , Dieschitz has 122 inhabitants. Censuses showed the following percentages of inhabitants with Slovene slang:

1951: 79.0%
1961: 53.1%
1971: 39.3%
1981: 16.8%
1991: 26.2%
2001: 15.4%

economy

Dieschitz does not own any significant companies. The general store closed around 1970, the carpentry around 1995. A restaurant and a brickyard existed in connection with the largest farm ("Hofovc") until the 1950s. The population, still largely agricultural until the 1970s, commutes to Klagenfurt am Wörthersee and Villach , only a small part still finds employment in St. Egyden, Schiefling am Wörthersee and Velden.
An independent from Velden water board ensures the drinking water supply of Dieschitz and Pulpitschs.
