Reviews
- Lexicon of international film : The film fascinates with the quality of the singers and the combination of opera music with South African sounds and, as a transfer of history to the township of Khayelitsha near Cape Town, opens up interesting perspectives on the "myth of Carmen". You can tell that the director and ensemble have come off the stage and that their use of cinematic narrative media is rather ignorant, which takes some of the force of the drama about passion, dependence, jealousy, humiliation and sexual emancipation. Nevertheless, the voices and the joy of playing of the actors captivate.
Awards
In February 2005, the film was surprisingly awarded the Golden Bear at the 55th Berlin International Film Festival .
