Franz Samwald

Franz Samwald (born December 17, 1931 in Pottschach ; † December 21, 1995 in Wiener Neustadt ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and SPÖ district party secretary. Samwald was a member of the National Council from 1969 to 1987 and mayor of the municipality of Ternitz from 1974 to 1993 .

Life

Samwald attended elementary school and was employed as a laborer at the Semperit company from 1945 to 1946 . Samwald then completed an apprenticeship as a locksmith at the Schoeller-Bleckmann company between 1946 and 1949 and subsequently continued his education at the social academy in Mödling and through the foreman course. After his apprenticeship Samwald worked as an employee of the United Edelstahlwerke AG (VEW), between 1960 and 1970 he was district secretary of the SPÖ Neunkirchen . Samwald joined the Socialist Youth in 1945 and was their district chairman in the Neunkirchen district from 1950. He was elected local party chairman of the SPÖ Pottschach in 1953 and served as a local councilor between 1960 and 1965. In 1965 Samwald was elected mayor of Pottschach, an office that he held until 1973. Samwald was also mayor of the municipality of Ternitz from 1974 to 1993 and acted as district party chairman of the SPÖ Neunkirchen. He was also a member of the state party presidium of the SPÖ Lower Austria and represented the SPÖ in the National Council from February 26, 1969 to November 23, 1987.

His son Christian Samwald (* 1980) is also a politician.
