Franz Weinitz

Franz Weinitz (born September 15, 1855 in Berlin ; † November 18, 1930 ibid) was a German art historian .

Franz Weinitz studied history and art history in Heidelberg, Munich, Strasbourg and Leipzig, and received his doctorate in history from Heidelberg University in 1882 . In 1884/85 he stayed in Paris for further studies. In 1885 he settled in Berlin and worked as a research assistant at the Nationalgalerie until 1888 , after which he did research as a private scholar . In 1893/94 he traveled around the world via Chicago, San Francisco, Hawaii, Japan, China, India and Egypt. In February 1905 he received the honorary title of professor.

He also dealt with the history of fire fighting in Berlin , for a long time he was part of the editorial team of the magazine Feuer und Wasser . In 1901 he organized the historical department of the international exhibition for fire protection and fire rescue in Berlin.

Since 1892 he was a member of the Society for the History of Berlin , whose Fidicin Medal he received in 1908; In 1925 he became an honorary member of the association. Since 1889 he was a member of the Geography Society .
