Franz Zimmermann (born November 20, 1864 in Linz , † January 9, 1956 in Vienna ) was an Austrian painter.

Life

Zimmermann studied under Leopold Carl Müller at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and initially worked as a genre and history painter. From 1891 to 1894 he stayed in Rome. From 1902 member of the Vienna Künstlerhaus.

He also executed wall paintings in churches, such as the Kaiser-Franz-Josephs-Jubiläumskirche and the Herz-Jesu-Kirche in the 3rd district of Vienna, but also altar paintings, such as the altar painting in the Breitenfelderkirche in the 8th district of Vienna or the altarpiece depicting the "Ascension of Christ" in the evangelical confessional church in Weppersdorf. Zimmermann received the Philipp von Schöller Prize in 1911.
