Grimaces
Fratzen is a potato dish from the Ore Mountains . In the Ore Mountains dialect it is spoken "Fratzn".
In this dish, a special kind of potato pancakes , raw or boiled potatoes are grated; in contrast to other potato pancakes, no yeast , no egg , no cereal flour , no milk or buttermilk , no herbs, no other root vegetables are used. The grimaces are neither filled nor topped and are usually not served with sweet side dishes (but for example with unsweetened cranberry pulp). Grimaces are fried on both sides and the size of a palm.
Griene grimaces with raw potatoes are known as griene grimaces (green grimaces).
