Frauke Kenkel

Frauke Kenkel (* 1978 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) is a German classical archaeologist .

Career

Frauke Kenkel studied classical archeology, archeology of the Roman provinces and ethnology at the University of Cologne and the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn . In 2006, she completed her master's thesis in investigations into Cypriot red slip goods and their derivatives in Pednelissos (southern Pisidia) . With the dissertation investigations into the Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine ceramics of the Tall Zirā'a in the Wādī al-'Arab (Northern Jordan). Commercial objects and everyday objects of a rural settlement in the area influenced by the Decapolis cities , Kenkel received his doctorate in Classical Archeology in 2012 at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Cologne (reviewers: Henner von Hesberg and Thomas Fischer ).

Kenkel worked on excavations in and around Cologne and as a research assistant at the Biblical-Archaeological Institute in Wuppertal and the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Cologne. She was also active in projects in Turkey and Mexico (Yucatan) and worked for a number of years on excavations in northern Jordan in the Tall Zira'a hills .

From October 2013 to September 2016 Kenkel was director of the German Evangelical Institute for Classical Studies in the Holy Land in Amman .
