Chillamani is a town in the La Paz department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Chillamani is a northern neighbor of Coripata , the central place of the Municipio Coripata in the province of Nor Yungas . The village is located at an altitude of 17213 m in the area where the Río Uma Marca meets  the Río Peri, which flows a few kilometers downstream into the Río Tamampaya .

Chillamani is located in the transition area between the Altiplano and the Cordillera Real in the west and the foothills of the Amazon lowlands in the east. The climate of the region is a typical time of day climate , in which the mean temperature fluctuations during the day are more pronounced than in the course of the seasons.

The annual precipitation here in the subtropical Yungas is 1100 mm (see Coroico climate diagram) and has a clear dry season from May to August and a rainy season from December to February. The monthly average temperatures fluctuate only slightly between 20 ° C and 25 ° C, during the day it is warm in summer and pleasantly cool at night.

Transport network

Chillamani is located at a distance of 120 kilometers by road northeast of La Paz , the capital of the department.

From La Paz, the asphalted highway Ruta 3 leads north-east for 52 kilometers to Cotapata and from there another 35 kilometers to Coroico . Here the Ruta 40 branches off to the southeast, reaches Coripata after 32 kilometers and meets the Ruta 25 at Puente Villa , which continues in a southeastern direction to Inquisivi and Cochabamba . From Coripata a country road leads north to Chillamani, one kilometer away .

Due to the historical population development in the Municipio Coripata, the Aymara population is predominant, 72.3 percent of the population speak the Aymara language .
