Frauke Sandig

Frauke Sandig (born March 24, 1961 in St. Ingbert ) is a German director and producer of documentary films.

Life

Frauke Sandig grew up in Saarland and Franconia and studied theater studies and German in Erlangen. In 1988 she became an editor at RIAS-TV in Berlin, and since 1992 she has been an editor at Deutsche Welle . There she also made numerous television documentaries as a writer and director. She has been producing her own documentary films since the 1990s, which she also directs. The films have been shown at numerous international film festivals, including a. Sundance Film Festival, Berlinale, IDFA, DokLeipzig. Frauke Sandig was a member of several documentary juries, a. a. at the festivals DokLeipzig and Sehsüchte in Potsdam. She is a member of the German Film Academy.

Sandy’s long documentary film Oskar and Jack is about a pair of twins. One of the children grew up as a Jew, the other as a Hitler Youth. The following theatrical documentary After the Fall was made in collaboration with American director Eric Black. The film tells of the disappearance of the Berlin Wall . It premiered at the Berlinale 2000 and won the main prize at the Golden Gate Awards in San Francisco. In her German-American co-production Frozen Angels , Sandig and Eric Black describe the world of artificial child production in Los Angeles. This film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2005 . The film Heart of Heaven, Heart of Earth (2011, international premiere: IDFA Amsterdam) describes the struggle of today's Maya against the destruction of their environment and culture. Her documentary film Friedland was premiered in 2015 in the Friedland refugee camp in Lower Saxony.
