Fred Dixon

Fred Dixon (actually Frederick Arthur Dixon ; born November 5, 1949 in Los Angeles ) is a former American decathlete .

On August 9 and 10, 1975, an international match between the USA, the USSR and Poland took place in Eugene , in which Caitlyn Jenner , at that time still as Bruce Jenner, set a new world record with 8524 points. Dixon was second in this competition with 8277 points ahead of Mykola Awilow , the previous world record holder. In October 1975 Jenner won the Pan American Games in Mexico City with 8045 points before Dixon with 8019 points. On June 25 and 26, 1976 Jenner improved the world record at the US championships to 8538 points, Dixon was second in this competition and reached 8294 points. Jenner set a third world record at the 1976 Olympics . Dixon stumbled in the 110-yard hurdles and had no valid attempt in the pole vault. With 6754 points he finished 23rd out of 23 decathletes who reached the goal of the 1,500 meter run.

In 1977 he took part in the Götzis all-around meeting and reached 7954 points. He finished second, over 100 points behind Sepp Zeilbauer , but was just ahead of 18-year-old Daley Thompson . In 1977 Dixon also won his only US championship. Also in 1977 he set his personal best with 8390 points (8397 according to the point scoring valid since 1985).

Fred Dixon is 1.93 m tall and weighed 85 kg during his playing days.
