Fred Hageneder (* 1962 in Hamburg ) is a German author.

Life

Since 1980 he has been researching trees ethnobotanically , i. H. in the aspects of cultural history , mythology , customs and religion .

Since 1999 he has authored various books on tree ethnobotany, i. H. about their significance in the history of culture and religion. So far he has published books in ten languages ​​(including English, Spanish, Italian, Czech and Japanese).

Fred Hageneder is a co-founder and member of the Ancient Yew Group (AYG; "Uralte Yew Group"), an independent research group committed to protecting Europe's ancient yew trees . He is a member of SANASI, a multidisciplinary international group of scholars documenting "consecrated natural sites" around the world, and works for the closely related project Mapping the Sacred, an online interactive platform launched in 2013 with the support of the University of Oxford and the Open University, United Kingdom, was founded to help indigenous guardians around the world preserve their sacred sites. And he is a co-founder of the Friends of Trees e. V. , who wants to create modern tree sanctuaries as places of peace and also as multicultural and interreligious meeting places.
