Fred Johnston

Fred Johnston (born 1951 in Belfast , Northern Ireland ) is a Northern Irish writer .

Life

Johnston was born in 1951 as the son of a craftsman and a dancer in Belfast, but grew first in the Canadian Toronto on. He returned to Belfast in the late 1950s. Here he attended St. Malachy's College and the Cregagh Technical College. In 1969 he moved to Dublin and later lived in Galway .

Johnston worked in a variety of professions. He worked as a journalist , advertising specialist, street musician, but also as a construction worker and transport worker. He was one of the founders of a small publishing house in Dublin.

He wrote poems, plays and short stories. The latter were published in magazines and newspapers. He also worked as a novelist.

Awards

In 1972 he was awarded the Hennessy Literary Award and received a fellowship from the Arts Council of the Republic of Ireland.
