Fred L. Metzler

Frederick Louis Metzler (born January 10, 1887 in New York City , United States , † November 4, 1964 in Hollywood , USA) was an American film company manager.

Live and act

Born in New York, he began his cinematic career in 1932 as treasurer of the West Coast cinemas owned by Fox Film Corporation . In 1935, when Fox and 20th Century Pictures merged to form the large company 20th Century Fox , Fred Metzler also became the chief treasurer of this major studio. Another three years later he was promoted to their studio manager in Hollywood. Metzler stayed in this position until his retirement in 1953, but returned to his old employer a year later and from then on worked as a so-called executive administrator and advisor to Fox Studios until his death.

Since 1949, Fred L. Metzler also served as treasurer of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and was also director of the Association of Motion Picture and Television Producers . In 1962 he was rewarded with an honorary Oscar for his many years of service to the company . Reason: "For his dedication and outstanding service" in the film industry. Metzler's New York marriage to Annie Clague, which lasted over half a century, had two sons named Roy and Robert, both of whom were also active in film company management.
