Fred Lambart

Howard Frederick "Fred" John Lambart (* 1880 in Ottawa ; † 1946 there ) was a Canadian mountaineer . He is one of the Erstbesteigern of Mount Logan , the highest mountain in his home country.

Life

Lambart was born in Ottawa in 1880, where he grew up and lived most of his life. In 1904 he graduated with a Bachelor of Science from McGill University . He then worked as a surveyor .

In 1925 he took part in an expedition led by Albert MacCarthy . It led to the previously unclimbed Mount Logan. Canada's highest mountain measures 5959 meters, making it the second highest on its continent, one of the Seven Second Summits . Other expedition participants were Allen Carpé , William Wasbrough Foster , Norman H. Read and Andrew Taylor . They reached the summit on June 23, 1925.

Lambart's other mountaineering accomplishments include one of the early ascents of Mount Robson . He was also Vice President of the Alpine Club of Canada . Fred Lambart died in Ottawa in 1946 after a long illness.
