Fred Williams (drummer)
Frederick Louis "Fred" Williams (also Black Fred Williams , * 1910) was an American blues - drummer .
Live and act
Williams worked in Chicago from 1937 to 1940 for the Okeh Records label on recordings of Curtis Jones ("Blues and Trouble") and several blues singers such as Merline Johnson , Lil Johnson ("Stavin 'Chain") and Victoria Spivey ("Time Ain't Long “) with. In the early 1940s he recorded with Sonny Boy Williamson ("Decoration Day Blues No. 2", Bluebird 34-0713), also during this time with Big Bill Broonzy and Memphis Minnie (1939). Jazz discographer Tom Lord lists Williams' involvement in nine recording sessions between 1937 and 1940. According to the Encyclopedia of the Blues , he was a major early urban blues drummer who also played with Washboard Sam , Ernest Lawyer , Walter Vinson , Willie James and Bumble Bee Slim .
