Freddie Steele (* 18th December 1912 in Seattle , Washington , USA ; † 22. August 1984 in Aberdeen , Washington ) was an American boxer in the middleweight and both world champions of the Association NYSAC and the NBA .

Between 1941 and 1948 Steele also appeared as an actor in a total of 28 films, where he played his most important roles probably in the comedy Heil the Victorious Hero of Preston Sturges and in the war film Battle Thunderstorm on Monte Cassino alongside Robert Mitchum .

In 1999 Steele was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame and the World Boxing Hall of Fame .
