Frederic Deacon

Frederic H. Deacon (January 1829 - October 1875 ) was a Belgian chess master of English origin.

Deacon won during the Provincial tournament in London in 1851, which was played in the knockout system, a match against the Irish W. Gilby (2-1), but then lost to Charles Edward Ranken (0-2), who then in the final Samuel Boden succumbed. Deacon also won competitions against Edward Löwe (7.5: 2.5) in 1851 and against Carl Mayet (5: 2) in 1852.

In London in 1862 he was second behind George Henry Mackenzie and came in at the 5th BCA Congress, also held in London, on a shared eleventh place ( Adolf Anderssen won the tournament). A year later he lost a match against Wilhelm Steinitz (1.5: 5.5) in London .

According to his historical rating , he was in ninth place in the world chess rankings in November 1852.
